The 2017 Global Compact Network Singapore Summit took place on 29 and 30 August 2017 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Themed "Better business together for the future economy", the Summit attracted a total of 411 attendees over the 2 days.
The Guest of Honour, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office delivered a keynote address to the participants. He also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between GCNS and the National Voluntary & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) to establish a national framework to guide companies on sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
Distinguished speakers for the Summit included H.E. Ambassador Barry Desker, Singapore's Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), Mr Sunny Verghese, Co-founder and Group Chief Officer, Olam International and Ms Goh Swee Chen, President, GCNS and Chairman, Shell Companies in Singapore among others. Through the plenary sessions and workshops, participants engaged in interactive conversations on how adopting sustainable policies and practices presents business opportunities in the Future Economy.
The winner of the CDL-GCNS Young CSR Leaders Award also received their awards from Minister Chan. This is a case competition to nurture future generations of sustainability champions and this year, the competition attracted a record number of 132 entries. Team Viride comprising 4 youths from the Singapore Management University clinched the top prize.
